Real Lettings to feature in Phil Spencer 'Empty Homes’ documentary
Real Lettings, Broadway and training provider Building Lives have been featured on a documentary on homelessness and the UK housing crisis for Channel 4.
Phil’s Empty Homes Giveaway will air on Channel 4 tomorrow, Wednesday 7th December, at 9pm as part of Channel 4 ‘Great British Property Scandal’ campaign. The documentary is presented by Real Lettings' Patron Phil Spencer.
As part of the programme, Phil Spencer meets some Broadway, Real Lettings and Building Lives clients who have been affected by the UK housing crisis, and tries to help them find suitable accommodation.
Homelessness is a very real threat to thousands of people in the UK, and the reality is, it could happen to anyone.
The average person is only three pay cheques away from losing their home, and in the current economic downturn it is increasingly difficult for people to make ends meet.
In the programme, Phil targets private house owners whose properties have been sitting empty for years. He attempts to persuade them to allow him to renovate these properties, through the help of Building Lives, and then let them to homeless people through Real Lettings.
The organisations involved work closely together, trying to tackle the issue of homelessness in London;
Broadway is a leading London based homelessness charity that goes straight to the causes of homelessness; tackling poverty, ill health, unemployment and the chronic lack of housing.
Building Lives, the social enterprise arm of Lakehouse, is an employer-led training provider, which aims to help homeless people close the gap to training and employment.
Real Lettings, a social enterprise arm of Broadway, is a lettings agency that helps formerly homeless people on the final part of the journey from street to home; helping them to gain accommodation within the private rented sector.
